Fair Lawn is situated next to Paramus, Glen Rock, Hawthorne, and Paterson. The highway Route 208 runs right through the middle of the town and connects to other highways such as Routes 17, 4, 287 and the Garden State Parkway. Many residents of Fair Lawn are frequent commuters to New York City and the town offers a couple of ways to get to NYC as well as other places. Having two train stations and many NJ Transit buses along with the ease of access to many highways, and a nearby airport (Teterboro Airport) helps to make Fair Lawn a commuter friendly town.
Fair Lawn has traditionally been an ethnically diverse town and is very accepting and tolerant of many cultures. Fair Lawn has an active Community Center and recreational sports program and has one of the original street hockey programs in the state, the Fair Lawn Flyers. The Fair Lawn public education system has six K-5 elementary schools, two middle schools, and one common high school. In 2016, Lyncrest Elementary School was one of ten schools in New jersey that was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education.
As far as shopping goes Fair Lawns ease of access and closeness to Paramus allows residents to reach two huge malls located just minutes away, Garden State Plaza, and Paramus Park mall. Also, along route 208 is you go in either direction there are many strip malls and restaurants located right off the highway. The Fair Lawn Promenade is located right off Route 208 and offers a variety of dining options such as Qdoba, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, and Habit Burger.
Fair Lawn hosts many events throughout the year such as Memorial Day Parade and a variety of holiday card contests in which winners compete for small prizes.
